Buddhism had been korean main religion before Christianity entered into Korea. Since Korean three kingdoms(삼국시대: 고구려, 신라, 백제), Buddhism has been important roles and parts of Korean society and cultures..
Especially most of cultures and arts based on the Buddhism ideologies such as Rebirth Thoughts(윤회사상) and Zen meditation(참선).
Most of famous temples are located at the beautiful scenery places and mountains..The views and sceneries from temples are beautiful and admirable..
Today I went to the small temple in 지리산(Jirisan Mountain) which is the second highest mountain in the South Korean, the number one is Hallasan Mountain(한라산) in Jeju Island..
Buddha was born in India and he got the enlightenment under the bodhi tree..This Buddhist philosophy moved in China and then was transferred to Korea and Japan.
So..most of korean Buddhism cultures and philosophies are similar to Chinese ones..
